HET GELUID VAN DE STILTE 2025

Visual artist Griet Dobbels, poet Lotte Dodion and theatre-maker-musician Cesar Janssens are three artists from different disciplines who see working together as a necessity, a reinforcement and a challenge. Together they explore the vibration of silence, the power of the inaudible.

HET GELUID VAN DE STILTE (the sound of silence)

What does silence sound like? Can we capture it? Preserve it?   We go in search of something intangible. A journey to the vibration of silence, to the power of the inaudible. A magical vibration that reminds you where you belong.   In the summer of 2025, a group walked in silence through the landscape of Watou. They attempted to measure, capture and preserve HET GELUID VAN DE STILTE (the sound of silence). Each walker carried a stick with a ‘silence catcher’ on top. The ‘silence catchers’ walked in slow motion, fully focused on their bodies and themselves in relation to their surroundings.   This group performance is the starting point for the final presentation at Art Festival Watou in the summer of 2026. It consists of a video and an art installation with a poetry organ. In both setups, we attempt to find a visual language for the sound of silence.
